By train
Stanwell Park station is on the South Coast Line. To the airport it takes about 1 hour 5 minutes station to terminal, with one change at Wolli Creek, on the timetable running until 14 November 2026 — about $23–27 adult with Opal, including the $18.61 airport station access fee.
Two things worth knowing. From Sunday 15 November 2026, South Coast trains stop calling at Wolli Creek, so the airport needs a change at Sutherland or Hurstville as well — or a ride to Central and back. And the line is electrified only as far as Kiama: south of it a diesel service runs to Bomaderry, so trips from Gerringong, Berry and Bomaderry add a change at Kiama. For a 6am flight with checked bags — at the terminal by 4am — no South Coast train gets you there in time.
The road, and what sets the timing
The village sits at the bottom of Bald Hill, and the descent into Stanwell Park is the steepest section of the coast road. In the dark or in rain it is slower than a map suggests.
Bald Hill lookout and the hang-gliding launch are the landmarks, and the car park there is a common meeting point for guests staying in the village below.
The run to the airport goes back up over the hill to the Princes Motorway rather than north along the coast — the coast road through Coalcliff is scenic and slow.
