By train
There is no station in Figtree; the nearest is Unanderra. From there it takes about 1 hour 35 minutes to the terminal, with one change at Wolli Creek — about $24–29 adult with Opal, including the $18.61 airport station access fee.
Two things worth knowing. From Sunday 15 November 2026, South Coast trains stop calling at Wolli Creek, so the airport needs a change at Sutherland or Hurstville as well — or a ride to Central and back. And the line is electrified only as far as Kiama: south of it a diesel service runs to Bomaderry, so trips from Gerringong, Berry and Bomaderry add a change at Kiama. For a 6am flight with checked bags — at the terminal by 4am — no South Coast train gets you there in time.
The road, and what sets the timing
Figtree sits just inland from Wollongong at the foot of Mount Keira, and the run to the motorway is quick — under ten minutes to the Southern Freeway.
Figtree Grove is the landmark most addresses are given from. The residential streets climbing toward Mount Keira are steep and narrow in places.
At about 75 km the trip is about an hour and ten minutes. Being inland rather than coastal, Figtree avoids the coast road entirely.
