Getting to Sydney Airport from Kangaroo Valley without a car

By train
There is no station in Kangaroo Valley; the nearest is Berry. From there it takes about 2 hours 40 minutes to the terminal, with two changes, at Kiama and Wolli Creek — about $26–29 adult with Opal, including the $18.61 airport station access fee.
Two things worth knowing. From Sunday 15 November 2026, South Coast trains stop calling at Wolli Creek, so the airport needs a change at Sutherland or Hurstville as well — or a ride to Central and back. And the line is electrified only as far as Kiama: south of it a diesel service runs to Bomaderry, so trips from Gerringong, Berry and Bomaderry add a change at Kiama. For a 6am flight with checked bags — at the terminal by 4am — no South Coast train gets you there in time.
The road, and what sets the timing
Kangaroo Valley is reached by Berry Mountain or by Moss Vale, and both roads are winding, unlit and slow at night. The descent from Berry Mountain in fog is the section that sets the timing on an early departure.
Hampden Bridge and the village centre are the landmarks. Most accommodation is on properties well outside the village, and a property name is far more useful than a street number here.
At about 145 km the run is about 1 hour 55 minutes, and the first twenty minutes of it are the slowest — the mountain road is not a stretch to hurry.
