Getting to Sydney Airport from Callala Bay without a car

By train
There is no station in Callala Bay; the nearest is Bomaderry. From there it takes about 2 hours 50 minutes to the terminal, with two changes, at Kiama and Wolli Creek — about $26–29 adult with Opal, including the $18.61 airport station access fee.
Two things worth knowing. From Sunday 15 November 2026, South Coast trains stop calling at Wolli Creek, so the airport needs a change at Sutherland or Hurstville as well — or a ride to Central and back. And the line is electrified only as far as Kiama: south of it a diesel service runs to Bomaderry, so trips from Gerringong, Berry and Bomaderry add a change at Kiama. For a 6am flight with checked bags — at the terminal by 4am — no South Coast train gets you there in time.
The road, and what sets the timing
Callala Bay sits on the northern shore of Jervis Bay, reached by a single road in from the highway. It is quiet, small, and a long way from anything at 4am.
The beach and the boat ramp are the landmarks. Most addresses are holiday houses and the street lighting is limited once you leave the main road.
At about 175 km the run is about 2 hours 25 minutes, and the last fifteen minutes are on a road with no alternative route if it is closed.
