Sydney Airport to the South Coast Without a Car
No direct train — and from 15 November 2026 South Coast trains stop calling at Wolli Creek, the station where most people change for the airport. Here are the real ways to get from Sydney Airport to the NSW South Coast — Wollongong, Kiama, Nowra, Jervis Bay — without driving yourself, with train times and fares checked 15 October 2026.
The short answer: There is no direct train from Sydney Airport to the South Coast. Until 14 November 2026 the train means a change at Wolli Creek — airport line, then the South Coast Line: about 1 hour 30 minutes to Wollongong, 2 hours 10 minutes to Kiama and 2 hours 50 minutes to Bomaderry (Nowra), for about $24–29 adult with Opal including the $18.61 airport station access fee. From 15 November 2026, South Coast trains no longer stop at Wolli Creek, so you change twice (Wolli Creek, then Sutherland or Hurstville) or start from Central. The ways to do it, and what each really costs you

2 · Train — cheapest ticket, at least one change
Take the airport line from the Domestic or International station to Wolli Creek and change to the South Coast Line, which runs through Wollongong and Kiama; south of Kiama a diesel service continues to Berry and Bomaderry (Nowra), so Gerringong, Berry and Nowra add a change at Kiama. An adult Opal fare is about $24–29 one way including the $18.61 airport station access fee ($16.64 for children and concession holders), and peak fares apply Monday to Thursday in the morning and afternoon peaks (Fridays, weekends and public holidays are off-peak all day). Jervis Bay, Kangaroo Valley and most villages have no station, so the trip ends with a taxi or lift.
What changes on 15 November 2026
The new South Coast Line timetable starting Sunday 15 November 2026 runs South Coast trains through Wolli Creek without stopping — only two of the four tracks there have platforms. Airport travellers then have two choices: change at Sutherland or Hurstville for a train that stops at Wolli Creek, then change again for the airport; or ride on to Central and take an airport train back. Sydney Trains suggests Central for anyone with large luggage or mobility needs, because of the lifts, staff and more frequent airport trains there. The same timetable adds more than 200 South Coast services a week and ends South Coast trains at Central rather than Bondi Junction. 3 · Shared shuttle or coach — fixed times, several stops
Shared airport shuttles run from parts of the South Coast to set pickup windows, with several stops on the way, and a long-distance coach also calls at Sydney Airport once a day on its South Coast run. They cost less per seat than a private car but keep to their own timetable — check the operator's times against your flight.
