By train
There is no station in Kiama Downs; the nearest is Minnamurra. From there it takes about 2 hours to the terminal, with one change at Wolli Creek — about $26–29 adult with Opal, including the $18.61 airport station access fee.
Two things worth knowing. From Sunday 15 November 2026, South Coast trains stop calling at Wolli Creek, so the airport needs a change at Sutherland or Hurstville as well — or a ride to Central and back. And the line is electrified only as far as Kiama: south of it a diesel service runs to Bomaderry, so trips from Gerringong, Berry and Bomaderry add a change at Kiama. For a 6am flight with checked bags — at the terminal by 4am — no South Coast train gets you there in time.
The road, and what sets the timing
Kiama Downs sits north of Kiama proper, along the coast between Bombo and Minnamurra. It is quieter than Kiama itself and the streets are residential throughout.
The beach and the surf club are the landmarks. Access is straightforward, and unlike Kiama there is no town-centre congestion to work around.
At about 105 km it is around five kilometres closer to the airport than Kiama, and $11 cheaper — the fare is worked from distance, so the difference shows up in the price.
