The whole ladder

Every fare. Published.

Fifty-seven destinations, each with the distance it is measured on and the time it usually takes. The same number in both directions, at every hour of the day and on every day of the year.

How the number is built

$60.00 base, plus $3.30 per kilometre, plus the $1.32 NSW Passenger Service Levy. Tolls, GST and airport fees are inside that figure rather than added to it.

The formula is the ceiling, not the floor. Published corridor fares sit at or below what it produces — on the long South Coast and Western NSW runs, noticeably below, because a 250-kilometre drive priced strictly per kilometre would be a number nobody would pay and we would rather publish one they will.

The receipt for any route shows both figures and the gap between them. That gap is not a discount that expires; it is what the corridor costs.

Both directions, always

A fare is the fare to the airport and from it. Kiama to Sydney Airport and Sydney Airport to Kiama are the same number, and a 03:30 pickup costs what a 13:30 pickup costs.

There is no night loading, no weekend rate, no public-holiday rate and no surge. There is no meter in the car, so there is nothing capable of producing a second figure.

Return journeys

The one-way fare doubled, then 10 percent off, rounded to the nearest $5. The same chauffeur drives both legs.

That rule is arithmetic rather than a negotiation, which is exactly why it can be printed. Toggle any fare on this site to a return and the receipt shows the subtraction.

Somewhere not on the list

You still get a number immediately. The formula runs on the road distance and the result is locked at booking in exactly the way a published fare is.

There is no version of this where you are told the price will be confirmed later, and no address in New South Wales that gets a shrug instead of a figure.

What the fare does not cover

Meals, and any stop long enough to eat one. Waiting beyond the free allowance, at the hourly rate agreed when you book. Stops that were not named at booking. Entry or parking fees at a private venue that charges them.

That is the entire list. It is short because the alternative — a long list of things that might be added later — is the thing this business exists to avoid.

Sydney CBD fares run $54 above the airport fare on every corridor, because the CBD is that much further south of the terminals. A destination that is not on this list is quoted by the same formula the moment you ask, and locked at booking exactly like a published one.

Questions

About the ladder.

Because distance stops being a fair basis somewhere past about a hundred kilometres. A 250-kilometre run to Orange priced strictly at $3.30 a kilometre would come to a number nobody would book, so the published fare sits well under it.

The receipt shows both, with the gap as a line item, rather than quietly presenting the lower number as though the formula had produced it.

Rarely, and never after you book. A change to the ladder applies only to bookings made after it, so Wollongong quoted at $341 today is $341 on the invoice, whatever this page says by the time you travel. The number is locked the moment the booking is taken, and since nothing is paid at booking and no card details are held, there is no charge sitting anywhere waiting to be adjusted.

Per car. One passenger and three passengers pay the same $341 to Wollongong. The car is the thing being booked.

Because $120 is the minimum fare, and 11 km at the formula rate does not reach it. A short run still means the car, the chauffeur, the airport access and an hour of someone's day.

It is the one route on this site where the published fare is above what the formula alone would produce, and the receipt says so in as many words rather than hiding it in the rounding.

Because the CBD is a further stretch of road past the terminals: Wollongong is $341 from Sydney Airport and $395 from the Sydney CBD. That step applies to the corridors running past the city — Illawarra, Shoalhaven, Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands, Hunter and Western NSW — while metro suburbs such as Parramatta and Penrith read the same figure either way. Both numbers are published here and both lock at booking.

Four things, and they are the whole list: a meal or a stop long enough to eat one, waiting past the free allowance at the hourly rate agreed when you book, a stop that was not named at booking, and entry charges at a private venue that levies them. Everything else sits inside the number, including tolls, GST, the $1.32 NSW levy, airport access, the meet and greet inside the terminal, and a child seat if you ask for one.

No question matches that. Try a shorter word, or ask the concierge.
