T1 International. International arrivals empty into the public concourse after immigration, baggage claim and the biosecurity line. That is where the name sign is. That covers the 11pm arrival that becomes a 1am arrival: the car still comes, the driver is still inside the terminal with the sign, and the fare is still $120 AUD.

Give the hotel name at booking rather than only a street number. Your driver takes you to the entrance the porters actually work from and lifts the bags out. If you land before check-in opens and the room is not ready, nothing about the fare changes — it was settled before you flew, and there is no meter running while you sort it out at reception.

Four ways cover the same trip into the city, and each one prices it differently.

Taxi. A rank taxi is flagfall plus a live meter, and the meter keeps counting while the car sits still on the Eastern Distributor. The total is known at the end of the trip, and Transport for NSW notes that an airport road toll is added to fares from the airport taxi ranks.

Rideshare. A base fare multiplied by demand. The airport at 6am, the airport in wet weather, and the airport when three long-haul flights land inside twenty minutes are precisely the conditions that trigger surge. The multiplier is shown before you accept it.

Airport train. About 13 minutes between the airport and the city on the T8 Airport & South Line, about every 10 minutes from 5am to midnight — about $22–24 for an adult with Opal or a contactless card, including the $18.61 airport station access fee, capped at $37.75 a week for adults. On price it is far cheaper than any car — three adults pay about $66–72 between them — but it is station to station with the bags; the fixed fare is $120 for the car, door to door.
